Annie Leibovitz is an American photographer, celebrated for her appealing celebrity portraiture and her intuitive photography style. She is skilled at capturing her subject’s inner personality, wether in staged or intimate images that highlight the expressivity or playfulness of her sitters. The artist was born on October 2, 1949 in Waterbury, CT. During the 1970’s, she began her career as a commercial photographer at Rolling Stone magazine and still regularly contributes to Vogue and Vanity Fair. She was influenced by the work of Richard Avedon and Henri-Cartier Bresson, but also by her own childhood pictures. Leibovitz had the honour of shooting the last professional portrait of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, before his death in 1980. Her works can be viewed at several museums, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
