How can I ensure the authenticity of the art works on 28 Vignon Street?
We stand by every item on our site and ensure its authenticity by thoroughly vetting every seller and art work. Every art work is authenticated by the signature or stamp of the artist or of the artist’s estate or foundation. In most cases, images of these authentications can be found on the page of the art work itself.
All art works are also authenticated by a certificate, issued by either 28 Vignon Street or by the artist, private collector or partner gallery it stems from. A certificate contains a visual of the art work together with all its data: title, date, medium, size, edition (if applicable) and signature.
Please do not hesitate to ask us for more documentation related to an art work’s authenticity, e.g. a provenance history of the work, and images of signatures and stamps that may be present on the piece.
What is a vintage print?
A vintage print is a photographic print made by or under the supervision of the photographer within a couple of years after exposing the negative. It is more valuable than modern prints produced later in the life of the photographer, or estate prints which are executed posthumously. Vintage prints have a special aura thanks to their greater rarity and the sense that it encloses the photographer's original vision. However, not all photographers were dedicated darkroom workers. For example, many advertising photographers and photojournalists left the printing to others.
Are the works framed?
All works are unframed and/or unmounted except when indicated differently on the art work page. If they are framed, it is mentioned explicitly, along with more details (size, colour, type of glass, …) and images of the framing method.
Why do some art works have pricing information listed INCL. VAT and others EXCL. VAT?
The art works listed as ‘EXCL. VAT’ are subject to the regular Value Added Tax (VAT) rules. Whether you are obliged to pay VAT on an art work or not depends on the location of the seller and the location of the buyer. If for example both parties are located in the EU, VAT is applied (except if the seller has a VAT number). However, if the seller is located in the EU, and the buyer in the US, VAT is not applied.
The percentage VAT that has to be payed on an art work, depends on the location of the seller.
You can easily verify if you are obliged to pay VAT on a particular art work by creating an account, filling in your invoice and shipping address, add an art work to you shopping cart and proceed to check out. The amount of VAT you have to pay on your order will be calculated in the ‘Overview of your order’.
The art works listed as ‘INCL. VAT’ are not subject to the regular VAT rules. They are generally coming from private collections (the secondary market) and can be sold ‘under margin scheme’, which means the buyer is not obliged to pay VAT on this work, regardless of his or her location.
CUSTOMS AND DUTIES
! Please note that items shipped internationally may be subject to customs duties set by the destination country. These fees are not calculated prior to customs clearance in that country and are in addition to the price and shipping cost you are charged when checking out.
If your purchase is subject to customs duties, the shipping provider will contact you about these fees, which must be paid before delivery. You will also be required to provide personal information, such as your EIN, IRN or SSN, for customs processing. Please note that shipping delays due to customs processing are not uncommon.

We do the utmost to visualise and describe the piece in the most trustworthy way possible. 28 Vignon Street only sells art works that are in excellent condition (except if indicated differently, e.g. in case of vintage photo prints). In the unlikely event that you receive an item that doesn't meet your expectations, we guarantee to work with you to reach the best possible solution.

If there are any issues, please be sure to contact us within 7 days by sending us an e-mail, including the following information:
- Details as to how/where the piece appears to be damaged. We recommend taking both close-ups of the areas of concern, and photos of the item as a whole, in order to be able to understand the full context of the issue and better evaluate if the item was properly described.
- Photos which clearly show the issue from both close-up and from a distance, and from multiple angles. If easier you can attach a video of the damage instead.

- Include images or copies of any delivery paperwork and any other documents you feel may be relevant to this matter.
If you receive an item that is very different from the description on our website, follow the same process and contact us within 7 days of delivery.
If you fail to proceed as detailed above, your claim cannot be taken into account and you shall be deemed to have definitively accepted the delivery.
